SylliFlor —
Gut health support,
backed by your
Irish pharmacist.
Roisin Cahill MPharm MPSI co-developed SylliFlor and recommends it to her own patients. A Trinity College Dublin pharmacist (PSI Reg. 11957), Co-Founder of RoCa Healthcare and Chemco’s gut health specialist.
Why a Trinity-trained pharmacist staked her name on this.
Working as a community pharmacist in Kilkenny, Roisin Cahill MPharm MPSI kept seeing the same patterns — patients struggling with IBS, constipation, bloating and digestive discomfort who hadn’t found anything that truly helped. She knew the clinical evidence for psyllium husk. She knew it worked. But the products available in Ireland were unpalatable, and patients simply stopped taking them.
Together with her father Pat Cahill — a nutrition specialist — Roisin co-founded RoCa Healthcare and launched SylliFlor in Ireland in 2018. She has since recommended it to thousands of patients, and the range is now used clinically by the Specialist Physiotherapy team at St Luke’s Oncology Hospital for radiation-induced diarrhoea in oncology patients.
When you buy SylliFlor at Chemco, you’re buying from the pharmacy where Roisin practises — and where the full pharmacy team can answer your questions the same way she would. Read Roisin’s full pharmacist profile →
What is psyllium husk?
Psyllium husk is a natural, plant-derived soluble fibre that has been studied for decades and used as a clinical-grade fibre supplement worldwide. Here’s what makes it different from every other fibre on the shelf.
A gel-forming soluble fibre
Psyllium husk comes from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant. When mixed with water, it forms a gentle viscous gel. That gel is what does the work — it softens stool, regulates transit, binds bile acids and feeds beneficial gut bacteria.
Unlike harsh insoluble fibres (like wheat bran), psyllium does not irritate the gut or ferment aggressively, which is why it is so well tolerated in IBS.
The only fibre with both FDA & EFSA heart claims
Psyllium is the only soluble fibre with regulatory health claims for lowering blood cholesterol in both the United States and the European Union. Around 7–10g daily typically lowers LDL cholesterol by 6–10% in adults with mildly to moderately elevated levels.
It is also recommended by NICE in the UK and the British Society of Gastroenterology as the soluble fibre of choice for IBS.
Works in both directions
Psyllium’s gel-forming property is unusual: it softens hard stools in constipation by adding moisture, and firms loose stools in diarrhoea by absorbing excess water. This is why it is used across IBS-C, IBS-D and IBS-M.
For most patients, meaningful improvements in stool form appear within 1–2 weeks of daily use.
A gentle prebiotic
Psyllium husk supports beneficial colonic bacteria with a much gentler fermentation profile than classical prebiotics like inulin or FOS — which often make IBS bloating worse. This makes psyllium a good prebiotic option for sensitive guts and for pairing with a clinically studied probiotic.
This combination is called a synbiotic approach.
What makes SylliFlor work?
Psyllium husks are one of nature’s most effective natural fibres — and SylliFlor makes them genuinely enjoyable to take every day.

What is SylliFlor psyllium husk used for?
SylliFlor flavoured psyllium husks support bowel regularity, constipation relief, IBS management, cholesterol maintenance and gut microbiome health. Suitable for adults and children from age 6. Gluten-free and vegan.
Who recommends SylliFlor in Ireland?
Roisin Cahill MPharm MPSI, a PSI-registered pharmacist (Reg. 11957) and Trinity College Dublin MPharm graduate, co-developed SylliFlor with her father Pat Cahill and introduced it to Ireland in 2018 through RoCa Healthcare. She is Chemco Pharmacy’s gut health specialist.
What is the difference between Plain, Cocoa and Vanilla?
All three contain the same pure psyllium husk active and deliver identical health benefits. The difference is taste — Plain is unflavoured and versatile, Cocoa is rich and chocolatey (the best-seller), Vanilla is subtly sweet and gentle on the palate.
How do I take SylliFlor psyllium husks?
Mix 6g (approx. 2 tsp) with at least 200 ml of water or juice 1–3 times daily for bowel regularity. For cholesterol support, take 15g (3 heaped tsp) daily. Drink immediately and follow with extra water. Take at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after oral medication.
Can I take SylliFlor alongside Alflorex or other probiotics?
Yes. Pairing SylliFlor with Alflorex is called a synbiotic approach and is what Roisin most often recommends for IBS. Take SylliFlor with breakfast and the probiotic capsule at least 2 hours later, so the psyllium gel does not slow capsule release. See the full pairing guide.
How long does it take for SylliFlor to work?
Most patients notice improvements in stool form and frequency within 1–2 weeks of consistent daily use. Pain and bloating improvements typically build over 4–6 weeks. For cholesterol benefits, allow 6–8 weeks before a repeat lipid panel.
Does psyllium really lower cholesterol?
Yes. Psyllium husk is the only soluble fibre with both FDA and EFSA health claims for lowering blood cholesterol. At 7–10g daily, LDL reductions of 6–10% are typical in adults with mildly to moderately elevated cholesterol. See the heart health guide.
Is SylliFlor gluten-free and suitable for coeliacs?
Yes. SylliFlor psyllium husks are gluten-free and suitable for those with coeliac disease. They are also vegan and suitable for children aged 6 and over.
Is SylliFlor safe during pregnancy?
Yes. SylliFlor is particularly beneficial during pregnancy when iron supplements can slow bowel motility. Always speak with your pharmacist, GP or midwife before starting any supplement during pregnancy. See the iron in pregnancy guide.
